Jude Turns One (month)!

(yesterday)

and it coincided with his first caught-on-tape smile.

Jude First Month Highlights
  • He's a mover! Jude's been rolling back to side since day one and at two weeks had one incident of flipping tummy to back after scootching his knees under his belly and pushing off. I don't expect to see that again for awhile. Today he rolled back to side then again to having his lower-half only being belly down. It looked mighty uncomfortable. The gravitational pull of a toddler-sized diaper might have added to the predicament. He tried his darnedest to straighten his body out (as I watched from the doorway) before I rescued the poor little soul.
  • He's a snuggler. We haven't found a contraption yet that satisfies him like a warm body. When we take a nap together he insists on pressing his little face square against mine. It occurred to me that if I'm not careful, I might just get smothered by some fluffy cheeks :)
  • He'd make a perfect piglet, peanut or Popeye. His pigletness is indisputable really: squeaky, squirmy and very, very pink. oh, and slippery when wet. A peanut seems fitting for no particular reason. Popeye is my favorite as he greets me every morning (which comes multiple times a night) with his right eye sealed shut by goop from his malfunctioning tear duct. Cracks me up every time. Don't worry, the tear duct thing is supposed to clear itself up soon.
Ok, so one month olds don't do much. But somehow he keeps me exceptionally entertained. He seems to have a moderate temperament: cries when he needs/wants something and occasionally for reasons unbeknown to me. He could care less about Fifel, so much so that he hasn't even looked at him yet. maybe he can't see him? I really should be reading a baby book. In meeting new people he generally falls asleep immediately and wakes up when the the coast is clear. He loves holding his head up and will sit in his carseat trying to do it himself despite the substantial recline.

That's our boy.
