As is a rite of passage in my book, Jude went to meet Santa Clause. It was one of those funny parental moments, the ones where "doing it for Jude" brings me infinity more joy than Jude experiences. I'm pretty sure I was more excited having my kid meet Santa than I was to meet Santa myself as a child. A similar find: Christmas decorations, namely the outdoor variety. Jude and I go out every evening and walk around the neighborhood looking at the lights and decorations. Since I've become a parent, I've developed a near giddiness for gaudy, tacky and huge Christmas decorations. Jude, being a very transparent kid, stares them down with neither a frown or a smile. I suppose to him huge tipping Snowmen belong on the lawn as much as a bare tree or a squaty bush.
Bass Pro Shops really pulled out all the stops for Santa. And when Jude's old enough for the Red Rider Laser Arcade, the model trains and the fake snow-ball-fight hut, I'll surely be just as excited, okay maybe more, than he.
