The Birthday Song

Partially due to the aforementioned topic (last post) I hadn't prepared much for celebrating Jude's birthday.  With Natalie being the same age, it just didn't feel right.  Then today I woke up feeling that it didn't feel right not too.  We have a healthy, strong, sweet boy who has made another trip around the sun.  And we get to be his parents.  We simply must celebrate this!  So we headed out this morning to indulge Jude in his favorite obsession treat: water! We went to the Spray park where his chubby body shivered and his lips shown purple (despite the 95 degree weather- my sad genes).  Still, he loved it and threw his "NO!" fit when it was time to leave. That's how we know he really liked it.

This evening we went to Costco for his absolutely favorite treat: hot dogs (no, I don't remember when this started).  About halfway through this "treat" at the plastic picnic table I started to feel that, toddler or not, this was a pretty lame birthday dinner.  Parental guilt stared to rise like bread dough, and I knew we needed to do something more.  Jude loves the birthday song, we've gotten multiple "more birthday!" requests throughout the day, so we decided that that would be it- we'd take him somewhere where they would sing to him. Mark was already halfway through his ice cream bar but announced that we could go out for dessert and he'd take one for the team. We pushed Jude in the shopping cart across the parking lot to Red Robin, where they did indeed sing for him. And this is what he thought of it:

Despite Mark's prodding he didn't touch the cake (fine by me).  But I think he enjoyed himself nevertheless.  Happy Birthday, Jude!

Aww, happy birthday to sweet Jude!

I'm so sorry to hear about little Natalie, but I think that she and her family would certainly want you all to celebrate with your little guy. I'll have their family in my thoughts in the coming days.
