What was initially distressing news has made life as of late pretty darn comical. Yesterday evening was spent upside down on the couch, upside down on the floor, upside down on the bed after being upside down in the pool for underwater handstands. Yes, it was sight. thank goodness it was dark. We staged a "freeze-out" placing an ice-pack on Flipster's head and a heat pack low to entice he/she downward. That one elicited quite the response, but baby seemed to cave after 10 minutes or so- probably it's Lake Placid genes. "This cold isn't so bad, really. It's actually quite refreshing."
Today began with a trip to the Chiropractor. Nothing terribly exciting there other than some sweet pillows for mama that allowed me to lay on my belly. heaven. The usual cracking, um, I mean adjustment, took place and the baby was talked to sweetly and gently pushed around a bit. I'm pretty sure she didn't adjust the baby. After the Chiropractor was the Acupuncturist. This is where things get good. She sensed through my pulse that my lungs needed support. Bad lung energy I believe. That was actually quite interesting as just 30 min earlier I had commented to Mark that I might have a cold coming on. Anyway, she placed needles and pulled them out quickly (they need to come out quickly to leave the energy behind) in my wrists and feet. I'm not sure how this relates to my lungs, but she explained that one's Ying and Yang must be balanced for the birth of the baby. My Yang ain't cutting it. The most Yang part of the body is the baby toes, so these little guys became the focal point. She lit "Moxi," which by the smell of it seems to be some type of incense, and proceeded to very softly burn each little toe on the edge of the nail. Being that my left toe had an abundance of Yang (as evidenced through my feeling the very first burn) it was mostly ignored. My right toe, however, needed a lot more action and stood strong for a good 2 dozen hits before I noticed anything. We then went through a series of tuning forks placed in various locations on my feet and legs followed by some gong-types bowls that really seemed to entertain the baby. Upon the end of our visit, Mark did a great job keeping a serious face (he hadn't seen everything else) as the pracitioner explained his role tonight with burning the Moxi around my baby toes as I lay, you guessed it, upside down. This is gonna be good.
I swear that the baby flipped head-down this afternoon, as evidenced through very low hiccups, only to make some massive movements and flip back. I can't help but wonder what this means for the child's personality: Does he have Mark's sense of direction? My sense of timing? ha. We've also come to consider that certain expressions "flipping everything on it's head" and "taking a taken a turn for the worst" may have come from parents of a breech baby :)
Our appointment for the actual medical procedure had to be rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon as I hadn't gotten the message about no food for 8 hrs prior. whoops. We're really hoping that when we arrive at the hospital at 2pm we'll find a cooperative kid who flipped back on his own. and that he'll stay there. Either way, we have a remarkable amount of peace and excitement about meeting this child in whatever way he/she needs to enter the world. and heck, it's been nice have a little amusement along the way.
